Felice Bet, born on 16 November 1928, lived at Via del Fante 15 in Pordenone.
After the armistice of 8 September 1943, at only fourteen years of age, he decided to head south to join the Allied forces, but without success, as he was unable to cross the Cassino front. Having returned to Pordenone, he joined the Garibaldi Partisan Brigade.
On 7 January 1945 he encountered a former schoolmate who had joined the Fascist militia; recognizing him, the man had him arrested on charges of being a partisan and a subversive. He was then taken to the Casermette, one of the places in Pordenone where prisoners and suspects were subjected to torture, where he was interrogated and abused for two days.
When his father and sister were finally allowed to see him, he was unrecognizable, a mask of blood. His bloodstained handkerchief was given to the family as a “keepsake.”
On 9 January he was imprisoned in the Pordenone jail by order of the Black Brigades, at the disposal of the German Military Command, which ordered that he be transferred to the Udine prison, where he arrived on 31 January.
From there he was put on one of the deportation trains bound for the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he arrived on 7 February and from which he never returned.

In 1953 his father applied for a “special war pension,” as “Volunteer for Freedom BET FELICE… formerly a member of the N. BIXIO Brigade – N. Nanetti Division, was recognized as a MISSING PARTISAN with seniority from 16 August 1944 to 6 January 1945” by the competent Triveneto Regional Commission of the Ministry for Post-War Assistance.
