Arcù Tardivo was born on 17 September 1921 in San Donà di Piave.
He was an airman in Siena when he was arrested on 8 March 1942 for membership in the Communist Party and for organizing communist cells within his unit. He was sent to San Vittore prison in Milan and later to Regina Coeli prison in Rome. Sentenced by the Special Tribunal to three years’ imprisonment to be served in San Gimignano (sentence no. 503 of 11 August 1942), he was released after the fall of Fascism on 28 July 1943 and returned to the air force until 8 September 1943.
He then joined the Resistance in the Garibaldi Natisone Division, Garibaldi Trieste Battalion, as a political commissar, a man more theoretical than action-oriented. He was arrested together with his brothers Giacomo and Mario during the roundup of 24 May 1944 in Ronchi dei Legionari, at Viale Garibaldi 85.
The three were taken to the Coroneo prison in Trieste for interrogation; Arcù was later transferred to the Risiera di San Sabba, where he was shot and cremated on 22 June 1944, among the first forty people executed at the Risiera
