The Municipality of Pordenone celebrates Remembrance Day (27 January) with a packed calendar of
events from 22 January to 3 February 2026, including
ceremonies,
exhibitions,
guided tours and
school activities. The focus is on the stories of the victims of the Holocaust and the Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) that preserve their memory.
The day of
27 January begins at 9:30 a.m. with the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the Deportees in Piazza Maestri del Lavoro, followed by a symbolic moment in the courtyard of the former Province in Corso Garibaldi.
At
11:00, the Verdi Theatre comes alive with the show “
Qui era. Qui è.” (
It was here. It is here.), a moving performance by the students of the
Leopardi-Majorana High School. They give voice to the lives behind the Stumbling Stones of Pordenone, bringing unforgettable stories to the stage; the evening performance is open to the public, to share that memory with everyone.
In the afternoon, the appointment is with ‘
Ritratto di una città in pezzi’ (
Portrait of a city in pieces): a guided tour, enriched by an audio guide, which starts from Via Montereale and arrives at the ‘Casermette’ in Via Molinari, passing by the Albergo Moderno, the prison and the stones in the centre. It is a journey through time, to relive the stories of 80 years ago and feel the weight of memory.
School initiatives:
- 28 January, former Convent of St. Francis: “The Suitcase of Drawings” on the art saved by Friedl Dicker-Brandeis in Theresienstadt.
- 29 January, Cinemazero: sold-out screenings of “Il bene più prezioso” (The Most Precious Thing) and “Elena del Ghetto” for students.
- 3 February, Sala Degan: ‘Adopt a stone’, awards for primary and lower secondary schools with certificates for the adoption of Stolpersteine (stumbling stones).
- From 19 to 30 January, State Archives: workshop on property expropriated from the Morpurgo de Nilma Jewish family.
Additional activities between January and February are promoted and organised by ANED in collaboration with the Municipality.
The programme is completed with significant guided tours: virtual tours on Zoom to Auschwitz and Birkenau; for teachers, to the Italian Memorial in Auschwitz (now in Gavinana, Florence) and educational trips to Trieste, the Risiera di San Sabba and other significant places in the regional capital.
