Roberto Pelos was born in
Ronchi dei Legionari on
20 June 1925, son of Giacomo Pelos and Maria Mazzuchin, and lived at Via Santissima Trinità 3.
An
aircraft assembler, he took part in the Battle of Gorizia with the Proletarian Brigade; after escaping encirclement, he reached the Karst and joined the Triestine Battalion. On 5 April, in Srdenj Lokovc, he participated in the formation of the Garibaldi Trieste Brigade. Captured by German forces, he was deported to
Mauthausen on transport no. 23, arriving there on 30 January 1944, where he was registered under prisoner number 50891. On 17 July 1944 he was transferred to the
Linz III subcamp. Liberated, he returned home but was hospitalized in Gorizia, where he died on 20 August 1945 from illnesses contracted during his imprisonment.
Roberto was a
partisan member of the Garibaldi Natisone Division, Garibaldi Trieste Battalion.
