Anteo Gino Pitton was born on 7 November 1926 in Pordenone, where he lived with his parents and four siblings at 55 Corso Garibaldi.
On 6 November 1944, at only eighteen years of age, he was arrested by German soldiers and RSI units during a roundup while he was having dinner with his family. He was transferred to the judicial prison in Gorizia, where he was assigned inmate number 2688 and became friends with two other prisoners from Pordenone, Agostino Brieda and Dionisio Cancian.
On 15 November 1944 he was deported to Germany and interned in the Buchenwald concentration camp as a political prisoner. On 20 April 1945 he was transferred, together with his friends, to the Terezín camp, which was used as a transit center for prisoners destined for extermination camps.
Anteo Pitton died on 8 May 1945 in Terezín as a result of physical wasting caused by malnutrition and the inhuman treatment he endured, as recalled by his younger sister Adelia.
